Short answer

The essentials on one page

My website was hacked: what to do right now (and next)

If your site is hacked: immediately change every password (hosting, admin, email), put the site in maintenance mode, back up its current state for analysis, alert your host, then have the site cleaned or restore a clean backup, update everything and ask Google to review the site. Then set up regular backups and maintenance. Read the guide →

Slow website: 10 causes and fixes to speed it up

A slow site is almost always caused by heavy images, too many plugins or scripts, undersized hosting, no caching or a badly coded theme. Compress images, remove unused plugins, enable caching and a CDN, and choose suitable hosting: a site should display in under 2.5 seconds on mobile. Read the guide →

Developer disappeared: recovering your website and domain

First find out where your domain and hosting are registered using a WHOIS lookup and your invoices. If the domain is in your name, the registrar can restore access with proof of identity. If it’s in the provider’s name, you need their agreement or a dispute procedure. Then recover a copy of the site and move everything to accounts in your name. Read the guide →

My website doesn’t show up on Google: a 9-point diagnosis

If your site doesn’t show up on Google, first check it’s indexed (type site:yourdomain.com), that it isn’t blocked by a "noindex" setting, that it’s registered in Google Search Console with a sitemap, that every page has a specific title, and that you target realistic searches. A new site usually takes a few days to a few weeks to be indexed. Read the guide →

Website not mobile-friendly: the risks and how to fix it

A site that isn’t mobile-friendly shows text that’s too small, buttons too close together or pages that overflow on phones. In Cameroon, where most visits come from smartphones, this drives visitors away and hurts SEO, because Google evaluates the mobile version first. The fix is a responsive, mobile-first design. When should you redesign your website? 12 signs it’s time

Consider a redesign if your site is more than four or five years old, isn’t mobile-friendly, is slow, generates no enquiries, can’t be edited, has been hacked, no longer reflects your offer or prices, or embarrasses you next to competitors. A well-run redesign keeps existing URLs or redirects them so you don’t lose rankings. Read the guide →

My website brings no clients: why, and what to do

A site that brings no clients almost always suffers from one of these: nobody finds it (no SEO or ads), the message is unclear, it doesn’t reassure (no proof, no prices), it’s painful on mobile, or there’s no simple call to action like a WhatsApp button. Measure traffic first, then fix in this order: visibility, clarity, trust, action. Read the guide →

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How do I know my site was hacked?

Common signs: redirects to other sites, unknown pages in Google (often in Japanese or about pharmaceuticals), "dangerous site" browser warnings, unknown admins, sudden slowness, spam sent from your domain.

How do I test my site’s speed?

Use Google’s PageSpeed Insights and check the mobile version. Also test yourself on a phone on 4G, off Wi-Fi.

My domain is in my former developer’s name, what can I do?

Contact them in writing and ask for the transfer. Keep proof of payment for the site. Without a reply, the registrar and the domain authority (ANTIC for .cm) have dispute procedures.

How long until a new site appears on Google?

Indexing usually takes a few days to a few weeks. Ranking well for competitive searches takes several months of work.

How do I know if my site is mobile-friendly?

Open it on your phone: if you have to zoom to read or scroll sideways, it isn’t. PageSpeed Insights also flags mobile display issues.

Does a redesign lose SEO?

Not if it’s well prepared: page inventory, keeping or 301-redirecting URLs, carrying over titles, monitoring in Search Console. Done badly, traffic can drop.

How do I know if my site gets visitors?

Install Google Analytics 4 and Google Search Console. Within days you’ll know how many people come, from where and to which pages.
